You’re two hours away from total relaxation
By Krisha Ramos
The hustle and bustle of city living is great, but it can mean that we often crave an escape where we can kick back and re-charge. Our criteria? A beach, beautiful surroundings, delicious food, limitless activities – and with close proximity to Singapore. If this sounds dreamy to you too then The Slate is your next ideal getaway. Here’s why:
Convenience, Convenience, Convenience
The Slate is nestled in the north of Thailand’s Phuket, which is breathtakingly unspoiled and just five minutes away from Phuket International Airport. Don’t worry – this does not mean that planes full of tourists can wave at you while starshaped on a sun lounger, but it does mean that you can hop off the tarmac and be cocktailing at the bar faster than choosing your first spa treatment.
Do Something New
Soak up some fresh air and soothing sounds on the shores of Nai Yang beach, which is minutes away from The Slate. If you’re not too chill, get your body moving with paddle boarding, kayaking and diving amongst the waters of the Andaman Sea. Simply approach the front desk who will arrange a full schedule of activities for you. Alternatively, indulge in a Thai cooking class hosted by The Slate, where you learn the philosophy of Thai cooking. The Slate offers two programmes: Market Visit and Thai Cooking Class (3,530 THB per person) where you accompany the chef to the local market and personally select the produce, or just the Thai Cooking Class (2,120 THB per person) where you stay in the comfort of The Slate and prepare the dishes using ingredients from the resort’s kitchen. Post-cooking you may be tempted by a bike ride which sees you exploring the grounds of The Slate. We recommend peddling around Nai Yang’s Sirinat National Park, the Sakhu area and the southern-side of Mai Khao Beach where you’ll discover temples, rubber plantations, pineapple groves, rice fields and local life.
Food is an integral part of any holiday and the options at The Slate won’t disappoint. With eight distinct dining concepts, guests can easily stay on the property for days without having to re-visit the same restaurant. Experience a mouth-watering journey through Thailand’s history with all-time favourites such as Pad Thai, Som Tam and fresh spring rolls at Black Ginger. For a healthy detox, head to Underground Café and indulge in a nourishing plates of goodness like the Andaman Seafood Salad – grilled prawns, mussels and scallops tossed with seaweed salad, Thai herbs and tamarind-lime dressing. Pair with cold-pressed juices.
Fitness + Fun
Whoever said you can’t stay fit while travelling has never been to The Slate. Here, there are no excuses not to slip into your sneakers thanks to hourly classes ranging from tennis, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and IP Worx (a fresh take on circuit training). For a more relaxing experience, try a private yoga class or some super stretching with Charlene Limoges, a wellness and yoga specialist. The wellness experience includes a 60-minute consultation with Charlene who will create a bespoke health and nutrition plan based on your wellbeing goals. Prices start at 2000 THB for 60 minutes.
Pampering At Best
You cannot come to The Slate and not visit the Coqoon Spa. Encased in luscious tropical gardens, the eight double private treatment rooms (they resemble enormous cosy domes) are out of this world. Choose from relaxing and rejuvenating treatments like the signature Coqoon Rebirth (60 mins 2,900 THB, 90 mins 3,500 THB, 120 mins 3,900 THB) and Awakening Massage (60 mins 4,700 THB, 90 mins 5,300 THB) or opt for the bespoke spa program which incorporates traditional Thai healing and holistic offerings. We love the Spa at night when it lights up the darkness and takes on a romantic feel.
The Slate is offering a four night stay for the price of a three night stay. Guests also get a guaranteed late check-out till 2pm, daily breakfast, airport transfers and a complimentary Muay Thai, boxing, tennis or paddle board lesson for two. All additional nights are available at 30% off the standard rate for all room types except for the D-Buk Suites. This is valid for stays from now until 31st July and 1st September until 30th November 2017. So treat yourself. You deserve it, and your body and soul will thank you.
